Beauty pageants are generally multi-tiered, with local competitions feeding into the larger competitions. The worldwide pageants, thus, require hundreds, sometimes thousands, of local competitions.

I think that if the child does not want to be in a pageant and the parent is so competetive that the kid has to, then I believe it is abuse. Beauty pageants are not a test of intelligence.
